COMMERCIAL ARTIST JAMES RODRIGUEZ DESIGNS DOWNTOWN ARTS DISTRICT BANNER

James Rodriguez, professional commercial artists has graciously donated his design of the approved Ormond Beach Arts District logo to be used on our new street banners.  Rodriguez was educated at F.I.T. and Parsons.  His works are on display in shows and galleries in New York City, the Caribbean and Amsterdam.  He recently held a show at the James Harper Fine Arts Gallery , 44 West Granada in downtown Ormond Beach. Visit his website here.

The first goal of Ormond MainStreet has been to brand the district.  The new banners will increase public awareness and interest in our Ormond Beach Arts District..New art related businesses are already inquiring about space to lease and additional festive activities are being planned for the east and west side of Granada Blvd.

The white background emulates the sandy beaches, the blue/green lettering represents the sea and waterways; the sun combines three components:  Florida as the ‘Sunshine State’, the reddish swirls constitute the hub of artistic activity and the ascent of the sun depicts the dawn of a new level of culture and activities in our downtown.

Thank you James Rodriguez for sharing your talents with Ormond Beach!

Ormond Beach to Update Strategic Economic Development Plan

The City of Ormond Beach Economic Development Department is looking for a few good Ormond Beach residents to participate in the update of the 5-year Strategic Economic Development Plan. The first ever Economic Development Plan was created in 2006 through a day long workshop that included members of various City boards, committees, community organizations, and residents of Ormond Beach.

Joe Mannarino, the City’s Economic Development Director, who facilitated the workshop with the economic development consultant Strategic Planning Group, is reaching out to encourage community participation in the update of the 2011 Strategic Economic Development plan. The workshop will allow the Economic Development Department to formulate a draft Strategic Economic Development Plan that will be presented to the City Commission for their review and approval.

The Strategic Economic Development Plan workshop will be held on Saturday, September 17, at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center, 2nd Floor Blue Room, 399 North US 1 from 8:30am-2pm. The itinerary includes a presentation of the Ormond Beach Economic Profile, review of the current Strategic Economic Development Plan accomplishments, and grouping participants into teams to prepare recommendations on the Plan’s goals and objectives.

Following the lunch break, participants will review and discuss their findings and recommendations that will formulate the draft Strategic Economic Development Plan that will be used to guide the City’s economic development efforts for the next three years.

To participate, you must be an Ormond Beach resident and be ready to roll up your sleeves and contribute during the workshop process. To better plan for the workshop, we request that you RSVP by September 10, 2011, to Joe Mannarino at 386-676-3266 or email mannarino@ormondbeach.org
